2022 GRENACHE ESTATE GROWN
On the hillsides of the Curtis Estate above the winery, you will find meticulously farmed rows of Grenache clone 513. This Estate Grown offering demonstrates, without a doubt, the extra hand and groundwork cultivated in the vineyard. We were extremely restrictive of yield to ensure that we can ripen, harvest, ferment, age, and bottle a rich, dark, fruity-yet-spicy Grenache. We employ a mix of sorted/destemmed and full whole cluster fermentation to maximize complexity while encouraging freshness and drinkability. The 2022 Grenache is a medium garnet color with a rich and decadent mouthfeel, framed by medium weight tannins and a luxurious mid-palate followed by a rather long finish and balanced natural acidity. The aromas and flavors center on ripe strawberries, blood orange, baking spices, cranberry sauce, forest floor, and cherry cola. While this wine will drink well in the near term, it will improve for the next 3-7 years.
"The 2022 Grenache Curtis Vineyard is shaping up to be quite promising. Crushed flowers, herbs, mint and a kick of whole-cluster savoriness all build nicely in the glass. This mid-weight, understated Grenache is a real charmer. The 2022 is on the lighter side, but all the elements are so nicely balanced. " 93 Points Antonio Galloni for Vinous
"The 2022 Grenache Curtis Vineyard is all varietal from a site outside of Santa Ynez and was aged entirely in French oak (15% new). Ripe black cherries, leather, smoky herbs, and peppery spice notes all define the aromatics, and it's medium-bodied on the palate, with a supple, layered, savory style revealing ripe tannins and outstanding length. It reminds me of an outstanding Châteauneuf du Pape from more sandy soils. Drink bottles over the coming decade." Jeb Dunnuck
