2023 E11EVEN CHENIN BLANC
We are fortunate enough to farm some of the oldest vines in Santa Barbra County. The oldest block on the ranch, planted in the 1970’s, is affectionately called Jurassic Park due to the deep, sandy soils (degraded quartz sand over limestone) in which the gnarly, own-rooted Chenin Blanc vines are planted. Modest yields and impeccable farming yield wonderfully interesting wines each and every vintage…Some years lean toward the lithe and appley; some towards the exotic; some toward the saline and chalky. The 2023 vintage has a bit of all of these characteristics, which made for an ideal vintage of this wine. To encourage and allow the Chenin goodness to shine through, we fermented this wine in stainless steel and then aged the wine in older Burgundy barrels before bottling.
